Blue ribbons and white wines were the order of the day for this group of revelers at the first ever Blue Ribbon Initiative gala at Elk Creek Vineyards on March 7, 2009.
Together, we are Uncorking a Cure!
(Owenton, KY) – Elk Creek Vineyards was the site of the first ever Blue Ribbon Initiative event in support of Uncorking a Cure on Saturday, March 7 and the combination of great wine, tasty food and temperatures in the 70s brought out more than 200 supporters.
Kroger chefs created a terrific assortment of foods, including loaded bruschetta bread, pasta using Elk Creek’s very own marinara sauce, hummus and an incredible creamy fruit quesadilla. All of the recipes used cancer-fighting foods primarily and went GREAT with the Elk Creek wines, which flowed all day!
Included in the day’s activities was a very rare Barrel Room tour which included the opportunity to sample Elk Creek’s almost forgotten 2006 Syrah, which has gotten an additional 18 months of aging in its oak barrels ... this wine hasn’t seen the light of day, much less my glass, since they ran out of screen-printed bottles back in 2007 ... according to owner Curtis Sigretto.
The event was supposed to run from Noon until 7pm, but the dancing carried on well past that! It was a blue ribbon day at Elk Creek.
Blue Ribbon Bottles For Sale in Kroger and Online
(Cincinnati, OH) – Kroger, the nation’s largest grocery retailer, teaming with Elk Creek Vineyards, Kentucky’s largest winery, has gotten off to a fast start with a great consumer response to the sale of specially-labeled bottles of Elk Creek wine in their joint effort to raise awareness and generate revenue for research and prevention of colorectal cancer during the blue-ribbon month of March.
Displays went up in Ohio and Kentucky Kroger stores on the first and will continue through the end of March, also recognized as National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.
The three Elk Creek wines being featured during the month include the crisp and complex Pinot Grigio and the subtle Vidal Blanc, both in distinctive cobalt-blue bottles, and the rich well-oaked Cabernet Sauvignon will add a little color to the trio.
All three wines are available for sale in 41 tri-state Kroger stores with a portion of the proceeds from the sale of those bottles being donated to Uncorking A Cure, a first-year foundation created to promote colorectal cancer awareness and prevention by building partnerships such as The Blue Ribbon Initiative.
Bottles may also be purchased on-line at www.ElkCreekVineyards.com or by clicking the button below.
